SCA Alumni Trails Day Hike in New York City

Description

Celebrate National Trails Day by hitting the trail with fellow SCA alumni in New York City! This hike is organized by SCA’s young Alumni Council as a way to further engage SCA alumni in the NYC area and build continued connections to the great outdoors.

Join SCA Alumni Council member Tina Walsh and other young alumni to explore Van Cortlandt Park's Forever Wild preserve. Participants will meet at the Van Cortlandt Park stop on the 1 train, then set out to explore the park's Cross-Country Trail, the Northwest Forest, the Croton Aqueduct, and Vault Hill (historic burial grounds of the Van Cortlandt family).

Please bring a packed lunch to eat on the trail. Optional stops after the hike at the Van Cortlandt House Museum (for all ages) and the Bronx Alehouse (for alums over 21).

WHEN: Sunday, June 7th, 10:00 am

WHERE: Van Cortlandt Park, 246 Broadway, Bronx, NY 10471.

WHAT: 6-mile hike to explore Van Cortlandt Park's Forever Wild preserve. (Easy options available to return to the train for those who would like to break off earlier.)

WHO: Alums who have served with SCA as interns, corps members, crew members, crew leaders, staff, or volunteers anywhere in the country! Current members and families also welcome.

BRING WITH YOU: Wear hiking boots or sturdy sneakers. Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. And don't forget to rock SCA gear!

DIRECTIONS:

BY PUBLIC TRANSIT:

Take the 1 train to 242nd St / Van Cortlandt Park. Participants will meet at the entrance to the park within sight of the train entrance.

BY CAR:

If coming by private vehicle, enter the park from Van Cortlandt Park South and park in one of the visitor lots near the Van Cortlandt Golf House (see park map). Then follow the foot path north past the Van Cortlandt Nature Center to the 1 train stop on Broadway where participants will meet.
